What we do

Forward Motion Strategies is dedicated to improving the impact and sustainability of nonprofit organizations.

Our areas of practice include sustainable fundraising strategy, high-impact program design, and strategic plan design and implementation.

We know the nonprofit and cause community, are led by skilled professionals with more than 40 years of experience, and we care passionately about improving outcomes for our partners. We do this by working with our partners over time to ensure that the right high level strategies for your organization also become a reality through well-managed implementations.

David M. Reis

David brings to your challenges more than 30 years of nonprofit and business leadership experience in both international and national organizations, most recently as CDO at Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America. Reis has provided strategic planning services, piloted a stage-gate innovation program for a national voluntary health organization, carried out fundraising campaign audits, and built fundraising capacity in a half dozen different nonprofits. He has raised more than $70 million in individual, corporate, and foundation funding. David has a masters degree in nonprofit management and postgraduate certificate in organization development from the New School, and is an Ethical Culture Leader. He serves as a member of the Board of Directors at Operation Code, and is a member of the Advisory Board of the National Association of Veteran-Serving Organizations.

Kate Dunham

Kate has more than a decade of experience working across all functions of nonprofit management on causes related to human rights and veterans. She has supported new and established organizations to develop, pilot, and sell innovative programs and member organizing strategies, and has experience creating easy-to-use monitoring and evaluation tools to measure success. Kate is a trained storyteller and a believer in the power of stories to build community and deepen supporters’ connection and commitment to causes. She has a masters degree in public administration from NYU and a certificate in nonprofit management from Georgetown.

Laura Slusarczyk

Laura is an experienced management professional who combines bold vision, thoughtful strategy, and proven tactics to improve the member/constituent experience across the nonprofit sector by integrating communications, tech, and community organizing. Most recently, Laura served as the National Membership and Field Director at Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, where she led the organization's community outreach program. During her tenure, membership grew 120% year-over-year, and 18% in total, and she led the two largest simultaneous member activations in the organization’s history. She additionally worked to pilot two leadership development programs and focused extensively on national expansion. With a particular interest in emerging and transitional organizations, Laura is able to apply her background and skills in nonprofit leadership to develop membership and constituent strategies designed to help achieve long-term success. Laura is currently the Director of Mission Advancement at a private high school. She holds a masters degree in Nonprofit Management from Hamline University, and is in the process of completing her Masters in the Study of Law with an emphasis on Conflict Resolution.
